Aleksandar Mitrovic’s Premier League Return Hindered by Wages

Football News

Aleksandar Mitrovic faces a significant wage obstacle if he is to make a return to the Premier League from his current club, Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia.

The Serbian forward is reportedly available to leave Al-Hilal after two seasons, and clubs including AC Milan and several from the Premier League have reportedly made enquiries. However, the 30-year-old`s substantial salary package, estimated at €15 million per season, is understood to be a major stumbling block for potential suitors.

Mitrovic initially joined Al-Hilal from Fulham in 2023 in a deal potentially worth up to £50 million. Since his move, he has maintained his prolific form, netting 68 goals in 79 appearances across all competitions for the Saudi side.

He was instrumental in Al-Hilal securing a Saudi Pro League and King`s Cup double in his debut campaign. Despite his contributions, he is seen as a player who could potentially be offloaded as the club prepares to enter a new era under the management of Simone Inzaghi.

Premier League Interest Confirmed for Mitrovic

Mitrovic has been named as a potential, albeit surprising, option for Manchester United as the club seeks to add an experienced number nine to their squad.

Interest is also present from other clubs across the Premier League. Mitrovic previously enjoyed a successful five-and-a-half-year spell at Fulham, where he became a fan favourite, scoring 111 goals in 206 appearances.

Transfer journalist Ben Jacobs has corroborated that there is “concrete interest” in Mitrovic from England, but he highlights that his wage demands remain the primary issue. For a transfer to materialise, Mitrovic would likely need to accept a considerably reduced salary, or an agreement might be required for a loan deal where Al-Hilal covers a significant portion of his current wages.

Mitrovic is currently with the Serbia national team, preparing for upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Andorra later this month. Should he feature in both fixtures, he will reach a milestone of 100 international caps.
