Alisson Becker expects Liverpool contract extension

Liverpool`s accomplished goalkeeper, Alisson Becker, anticipates that the Premier League club will activate an option to extend his current contract by an additional year.

The agreement for the Brazil international at Anfield is presently scheduled to conclude next summer.

Alisson, who has made 298 appearances for the Reds since joining from Italian side Roma in 2018, also revealed his aspiration to eventually return and play for his former Brazilian club, Internacional.

Following the transfer of his long-term understudy, Caoimhin Kelleher, to Brentford, the 32-year-old is reportedly set to face competition from Georgia international and former Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili next season.

Speaking to the press ahead of Brazil`s World Cup qualifier against Paraguay, Alisson stated, “I`ve never been able to plan long-term.”

He added, “Obviously now I have one year left on my contract and another year of club option, which they will probably exercise.”

During his tenure at Liverpool, Alisson has accumulated numerous major honours, including two Premier League titles, the Champions League, the Club World Cup, the FA Cup, and the Carabao Cup.

His professional career began at Porto Alegre-based Internacional before he moved to Italy in 2016.

Alisson noted that several prominent Brazilian players, such as Neymar, Thiago Silva, and former Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho, have recently returned to play in their native country after successful spells in Europe.

Discussing the potential return, Alisson commented, “I talk to athletes who have made this move to return, some have had good experiences, others not.”

He concluded, “Each one will have their own experience but I want to return, especially to Inter. I don`t know when it will happen, but I still want to do it at a high level. That`s what I have planned.”
