There was significant frustration among Arsenal personnel regarding the decision to overturn a second-half penalty in the first leg, which would have given Mikel Arteta’s side a 2-1 lead. Rice was among the players who voiced his opinion, claiming that referee Danny Makkelie was influenced by the home crowd at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano to alter his decision.
