Barcelona are making plans to acquire a new central defender this summer. While Alessandro Bastoni remains their top choice, other players are also being evaluated by club officials.
A move for Bastoni appears to be progressing, with Inter Milan indicating their star defender could depart if their valuation is met. However, this financial hurdle might be challenging for Barcelona due to their known financial constraints.
As an alternative to reinforce their defence, Barcelona are also considering Jhon Lucumi. According to reports from Sport, the Bologna and Colombian international is on their “Plan B” list of targets should a move for Bastoni fall through this summer.
Lucumi has been on Barcelona’s radar for some time, having been a target previously. Although no transfer materialised then, a move could be on the cards this summer, depending on the outcome of their pursuit of Bastoni.
Barcelona Hope Lucumi Won’t Be Necessary
Lucumi could represent a more budget-friendly option for Barcelona. He is expected to be available this summer for below his market value. With his contract at Bologna running until 2027, the Italian club may have limited leverage in negotiations, potentially making him an attractive prospect for Barcelona.
Nevertheless, Barcelona’s clear preference is for Bastoni. They are determined to secure his signing if possible, provided they can reach an agreement with Inter Milan. Initial discussions with the Italian club have reportedly not been fruitful.
