Barcelona and Real Madrid Competing to Sign €75m Manchester City Star

Football

Both Barcelona and Real Madrid are actively seeking to strengthen their defensive lines this summer, making a new central defender a high priority in the transfer window. It comes as no surprise that their pursuit of talent has led them to similar targets.

Earlier in the year, the interest from both clubs in Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck waned after he committed to a new contract. Their focus has now shifted towards the Premier League, specifically to Manchester City.

According to reports, Josko Gvardiol is reportedly considering a move away from Manchester City following Pep Guardiola’s departure. The El Clasico rivals, Barcelona and Real Madrid, are among the clubs expressing interest in the 24-year-old Croatian international. Gvardiol, who has previously expressed his willingness to join Real Madrid, is also a target for Bayern Munich, who aim to bring him back to Germany after his move from RB Leipzig.

Man City Open to Selling Gvardiol at a Loss

Manchester City acquired Gvardiol in 2023 for a reported €90 million. Despite his generally solid performances at the Etihad Stadium, it is understood that the Premier League club would be willing to accept an offer in the region of €75 million. This valuation presents a potential market opportunity for a player who has consistently showcased his quality in England.

Currently, Gvardiol is not the primary target for either Real Madrid or Barcelona. Real Madrid has yet to finalize their summer transfer strategy, while Barcelona is prioritizing attacking reinforcements. They are reportedly close to signing Anthony Gordon, and a new striker is expected to be their next objective once that deal is completed.

It remains to be seen whether Real Madrid or Barcelona will make a move for Gvardiol this summer, but his addition would undoubtedly be a significant boost for either club.
