Barcelona`s sporting director Deco has confirmed the club`s interest in acquiring forward Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao.
Deco stated that the player himself has expressed a strong desire to join Barcelona, and the club intends to try and complete the transfer if circumstances allow. He is quoted as saying:
“Yes, Nico Williams wants to move to Barcelona. And we will try to sign him. Nico, like other players, shows a great desire [to play for Barcelona]. And if everything works out, we will definitely try to finalize the deal,” reports La Vanguardia.
Previously, there were reports that Barcelona had already reached a preliminary agreement with the 22-year-old footballer on a long-term contract until 2031.
Nico Williams has been playing for Athletic since 2021. In the concluded 2024/25 season, he scored 11 goals and provided 7 assists in 45 matches across all competitions. His current contract with Athletic runs until the summer of 2027.
