Barcelona is reportedly interested in acquiring Alessandro Bastoni as their new starting central defender this summer. While Inter Milan is open to a sale, they may consider including one of their own players to enhance the value of the deal, with Hector Fort being the most likely candidate.
Fort, who is expected to return to action with Elche this week after a four-month layoff due to a shoulder injury, faces an uncertain future at Barcelona. He currently sits behind Jules Kounde and Eric Garcia in the right-back hierarchy. Should Joao Cancelo be signed permanently, Fort would drop further down the pecking order.
This situation has opened up the possibility of a move to Inter, who would reportedly welcome Fort’s inclusion in a deal for Bastoni. Although the 19-year-old is said to be flattered by this interest, his primary objective is to continue his career at Barcelona for the foreseeable future.
Fort’s Future to be Decided This Summer
Fort will rejoin Barcelona upon the conclusion of his loan spell at Elche. A decision regarding his involvement in the 2026-27 campaign will be made at the beginning of pre-season. If he is not part of coach Hansi Flick’s plans, the likelihood of his departure will increase, potentially positioning Inter favorably to secure his signature.
It remains to be seen how much Inter might lower their asking price for Bastoni if Fort is part of the agreement. However, if Barcelona decides to let him go, it would be prudent for them to retain some control over his future. Despite facing challenges in building upon his promising performances from the 2023-24 season, Fort has ample time to develop his career.
