Following Real Madrid’s elimination from the Champions League by Bayern Munich, with a 6-4 aggregate score after a 4-3 defeat at the Allianz Arena, much of the post-match discussion has centered on Eduardo Camavinga’s controversial red card. Some believe this controversy has overshadowed criticism that should be directed at the Real Madrid players themselves.
According to Diario AS, Thierry Henry criticized Real Madrid for a lack of on-field awareness in Munich.
“Real Madrid fans will flood social media complaining about the referee. They’ll argue that Camavinga’s second yellow card was unjust, too lenient for a Champions League quarter-final, and that the officials were biased. However, one must understand that when playing away at the Allianz Arena, you should not give the referee any reason to make a decision against you. You need to be more astute than that.
“You witness Real Madrid dominating in the first half with Güler and Mbappé, leading everyone at home to believe the comeback is secured. Then, Bayern emerged in the second half, capitalized on their numerical advantage, and transformed the pitch into a pressure cooker, completely suffocating them. And that shot by Michael Olise in added time to seal a 4-3 victory for Bayern and definitively end the tie? What a goal. To exhibit such cool composure against Real Madrid in the 94th minute is remarkable. Real Madrid likely thought they were the undisputed kings of comebacks, but tonight, Bayern gave them a harsh lesson in their own game.”
Petit: Some Real Madrid Players Lack the Necessary Quality
Emmanuel Petit echoed similar sentiments, expressing his opinion that certain Real Madrid players on display at the Allianz Arena do not merit their places in the squad.
“There are players who simply do not possess the level required to play for Real Madrid. They must improve significantly to be able to win matches of this caliber.”
