Barcelona Make Formal Offer for Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid

Football

Barcelona has officially declared their interest in Julian Alvarez, submitting a formal offer to Atletico Madrid. This move comes after over a year of speculation and is driven by Barcelona’s search for a successor to Robert Lewandowski.

Atletico Madrid has previously expressed frustration with Barcelona’s public pursuit of Alvarez. However, it appears the Argentine international is amenable to a transfer. Reports suggest he has informed Atletico of his desire to depart this summer, with a move to Barcelona being his primary preference. This scenario is less than ideal for Atletico, as Barcelona is a direct competitor. They have set a €150 million price tag and would prefer to sell Alvarez to Arsenal or Paris Saint-Germain, if a sale is to occur.

Barcelona Submits Bid to Atletico Madrid for Julian Alvarez

According to Fabrizio Romano and El Chiringuito, Barcelona’s initial offer for Alvarez amounts to €100 million. This offer does not include any player exchanges, contrary to initial expectations. It’s also reported that Ferran Torres has rejected the possibility of being part of any deal. El Chiringuito suggests this is an opening bid, and Barcelona does not anticipate its immediate acceptance.

PSG Has Already Made an Offer for Alvarez

Furthermore, El Chiringuito reports that Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has already presented an offer of €120 million, including two players. Atletico rejected this offer at the time, though this was before Alvarez communicated his desire to leave. PSG is reportedly willing to offer Alvarez an annual salary of €22 million, matching that of their highest-paid player, Ousmane Dembele.

It remains uncertain whether Alvarez, who is reportedly content living in the Spanish capital, would consider a move to PSG or Arsenal, or if he will hold out exclusively for a transfer to Barcelona.
