Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado is reportedly exploring options for a summer departure from the club, believing a move could provide the consistent playing time he desires. After a promising start to Hansi Flick’s tenure where he was an integral part of the team until the final two months, Casado has found opportunities harder to come by this season.
Last summer, Casado was the subject of transfer speculation, with clubs like West Ham United and Wolves reportedly eyeing a €30 million move. Despite initial indications that Barcelona might be open to a sale, Casado opted to stay, a decision reportedly supported by then-coach Flick, who expressed a desire for the former Barca Atletic captain to remain. Similar links surfaced in January with Atletico Madrid, but Casado committed to fighting for minutes until the season’s end, always prioritizing regular appearances for his club.
Casado Open to Exit Offers This Summer
However, as the current season draws to a close, Casado’s path to regular first-team action at Camp Nou appears increasingly challenging. Reports indicate that the midfielder has now decided to actively consider exit offers this summer. While his contract extends until 2028 and renewal talks have taken place, Casado notably switched agents to Jorge Mendes last year. With Eric Garcia, Marc Bernal, and Frenkie de Jong currently ahead of him in the squad hierarchy, Casado’s pursuit of more significant game time is understandable.
Barcelona’s Stance on Casado’s Future
This development aligns well with Barcelona’s Director of Football, Deco’s plans. It was recently reported, perhaps not coincidentally, that Casado is one of two players Barcelona hopes to sell this summer to generate funds for incoming transfers. With the 22-year-old having just two years remaining on his contract, capitalizing on his market value seems a prudent strategy for the club, especially if Flick does not foresee him as a primary starter and with Gavi’s anticipated return from injury.
