Barcelona Pays Release Clause for Joan Garcia. What About Ter Stegen?

Football News

La Liga has reportedly informed Espanyol that Barcelona has initiated the payment of €26.3 million for goalkeeper Joan García, according to MARCA. The official announcement regarding the new goalkeeper`s arrival is consequently expected to follow in the coming days.

What to Do With Ter Stegen?

Despite recent speculation linking him with moves to clubs like Galatasaray or Monaco, Barcelona`s current first-choice goalkeeper, Marc-André ter Stegen, has clarified his position on his future. He firmly states that he has no intention of leaving the Catalan giants.

In recent weeks, the German keeper was quoted saying: “I know I will be at Barcelona next season. My intention is to stay. I am 100% committed to Barcelona and I am not influenced by rumors.”

However, since the impending arrival of Joan Garcia, rumors about Ter Stegen`s potential departure have gained traction, including suggestions of a decisive offer from Galatasaray. But, according to MARCA`s information, Ter Stegen still has no plans to leave. His ambition as a goalkeeper remains to fight for the starting spot. He apparently envisions no other scenario for his career at this time.

The experienced goalkeeper is confident in his ability to return to peak form after the knee injury he sustained last season. Both his surgery and subsequent rehabilitation have been successful, leaving Ter Stegen certain he is in perfect condition to continue guarding the Blaugrana goal. Therefore, the situation is now largely in Barcelona`s hands, and they have limited flexibility if they genuinely intend to make Joan García their starting keeper. The only viable way to move Ter Stegen on would be to terminate his contract, an operation that would be financially disadvantageous considering the German has three years remaining on his current deal.
