Barcelona star backed to seal summer move to Juventus

Barcelona is anticipated to offload a key striker this summer, with Robert Lewandowski appearing as the more likely candidate to depart. This comes even after being offered a new contract by the Catalan club, as remaining would necessitate accepting a substantially reduced financial package.

While MLS clubs have shown interest in Lewandowski, he also has opportunities to continue his career in Europe. Italy emerges as a strong possibility, particularly with Juventus, who are expected to seek a new forward given Dusan Vlahovic’s anticipated exit when his contract concludes in June.

Polish football legend Zbigniew Boniek has publicly endorsed Lewandowski’s potential transfer to Juventus this summer. According to MD, Boniek, who won two European Cups with Juventus in the 1980s, views his compatriot as an ideal fit for his former club.

Boniek stated, “If he wants to fight for victory every Sunday for two more years, Juventus would be a great challenge and the perfect place for him.” He added that he has consistently urged Lewandowski to consider a move to Italy, emphasizing that the decision rests on Lewandowski’s ambitions. Boniek clarified, “If Robert wants to retire quietly, I would tell him to let football go. But if he wants to fight for victory every Sunday for two more years, Juventus would be a great challenge and the perfect place for him.”

Recalling his long acquaintance with Lewandowski since his early days in the Polish Second Division, Boniek remarked on his consistent goal-scoring ability. He recounted playful teasing during their time with the national team (Boniek as Federation president, Lewandowski as a striker), saying, “You score so many goals because you have never played in Italy.” Boniek asserted that to be considered a true goalscorer, one must prove their capabilities in Serie A, describing it as “the toughest” championship, particularly for forwards, despite perhaps not being “the most beautiful to watch.”

Lewandowski has a big decision to make

Ultimately, Lewandowski faces a crucial decision regarding his future. While remaining at Barcelona for another season is a distinct possibility, he might equally opt to conclude his illustrious career at a different club.
