Barcelona Tables New Contract Offer for Robert Lewandowski

Football

FC Barcelona has presented veteran forward Robert Lewandowski with an opportunity to extend his stay at the club beyond the current season. The 37-year-old’s contract is set to expire next season, and his future at Camp Nou currently remains uncertain.

The Polish international has largely seen his starting role diminish this season, often ceding it to Ferran Torres. Despite this, coach Hansi Flick has recently reintegrated Lewandowski into the starting lineup in an effort to reignite his scoring form. Nevertheless, Barcelona’s summer transfer strategy reportedly includes a strong focus on acquiring a new primary striker.

Barcelona Extends Contract Offer to Lewandowski

According to Sport, the Blaugrana have indeed tabled a new contract proposal for Lewandowski. This offer reportedly entails a substantial salary reduction, estimated at around half his current earnings, albeit with performance-based variables that could significantly boost his overall compensation. Club President Joan Laporta has previously expressed his desire to retain the experienced goalscorer.

Lewandowski Weighs Role Amidst Barcelona’s Plans

It appears Barcelona intends to facilitate a move for Ferran Torres this summer should Lewandowski opt to stay, as the club believes accommodating three main strikers within the squad is impractical. From Lewandowski’s perspective, with the potential arrival of another high-profile attacker, he seeks assurance of a pivotal role before committing to a new contract.

Other Clubs Express Interest in Lewandowski

However, the same publication cites Polish journalist Janusz Michalik, who suggests that Chicago Fire coach Gregg Berhalter anticipates Lewandowski will remain in Catalonia for the upcoming season. Lewandowski’s primary preference has consistently been to stay with Barcelona, despite receiving other bids, including one from the MLS side Chicago Fire.

Beyond the prospect of a move to the United States, Lewandowski has also attracted interest from Italian giants Juventus and AC Milan. Furthermore, clubs in Saudi Arabia are reportedly eager to recruit another high-profile player for the Saudi Pro League. Ultimately, the choice regarding his future now rests with Lewandowski.
