If Barcelona wishes to retain Marcus Rashford, they might need to enter fresh negotiations with Manchester United, as recent speculation suggests his return to Camp Nou next season is becoming less probable.
For the upcoming season, Barcelona has reportedly been exploring more economical alternatives for the left-wing, partly due to concerns over Rashford’s €30m buy option and salary, coupled with Manchester United’s firm stance on their asking price. Cadena SER now indicates that Barcelona’s option to buy Rashford officially lapsed on March 31st, leaving his future unresolved and removing Barcelona’s direct control over the transfer.
Rashford’s Camp Denies Report
Despite these reports, Rashford’s representatives have refuted the claims. According to Sport, who contacted his camp, the agents assert that the buy option has not expired. Nevertheless, the Catalan newspaper suggests that Barcelona has no intention of activating the option this summer.
Barcelona Considers Another Loan, United Seeks Permanent Deal
While Barcelona remains interested in bringing Rashford back under favorable terms, the likelihood of this happening appears slim. Although the Blaugrana would be open to securing Rashford on a second loan, Manchester United is strongly opposed to another temporary move and is instead pushing for a permanent transfer, with indications that they may even increase their asking price.
Growing Interest from Other European Giants
Last summer, Aston Villa tried to convert Rashford’s loan into a permanent deal, but his preference for Barcelona ultimately influenced Manchester United’s decision. This time, however, Rashford could have a wider array of choices, with AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain reportedly monitoring his situation closely should he become available for transfer.
