Bayern Munich will be missing a forward option for the crucial Champions League quarter-final second leg against Real Madrid. The Bavarian giants, who hold a 2-1 advantage from the first leg at the Santiago Bernabeu, are heading into the return fixture at the Allianz Arena as favorites.
Real Madrid, despite being outplayed for significant portions of the initial match, showed resilience and belief in their comeback potential. However, they will face Bayern without key midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, who is suspended for the upcoming game.
Bayern Munich’s Young Forward Injured
Bayern Munich officially announced on Friday that 18-year-old prospect Lennart Karl has suffered a muscle tear in his right thigh. According to Sky Sport DE, the injury is expected to sideline him for approximately three weeks. This means he will miss the Real Madrid encounter on Wednesday and could also be unavailable for the first leg of a potential Champions League semi-final.
Vincent Kompany on Harry Kane’s Fitness
Speaking ahead of Bayern Munich’s domestic fixture against St. Pauli this weekend, manager Vincent Kompany indicated that he plans to make “one or two rotations” to the squad. He also suggested that his team can perform even better than they did in Madrid. Prior to their trip to the Spanish capital, there were concerns about a star forward Harry Kane’s ankle injury. However, it appears the England international has managed to recover without further complications, despite playing through some discomfort.
“Harry Kane was fine after the game; he played a little beyond his pain threshold. But there was no reaction the next day, and that’s the most important thing,” Marca quoted Kompany as saying.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid is scheduled to play Girona on Friday night at the Santiago Bernabeu. They are expected to make changes to their lineup in preparation for the journey to Germany. Players like Jude Bellingham and Eder Militao are anticipated to feature to regain match sharpness with a view to starting in Munich.
