Bayern Munich honorary president mocks Barcelona over Harry Kane interest

Football

Barcelona is actively pursuing a new star striker for the summer transfer window to replace the departing Robert Lewandowski. The Catalan club has identified three primary candidates to succeed their veteran number nine, with Bayern Munich and England captain Harry Kane being one of them.

Barcelona has been monitoring Kane for some time, and with Lewandowski’s departure imminent, this summer presents an ideal opportunity to replicate the strategy employed when signing the Polish international four years prior. Furthermore, if reports of a release clause in his Bayern contract are accurate, Kane could be a more affordable option compared to Julian Alvarez or Joao Pedro, who are also on Barcelona’s radar.

However, when questioned about Barcelona’s interest in Kane following his hat-trick in Bayern’s DFB Pokal final victory over Stuttgart on Saturday, Bayern’s honorary president, Uli Hoeness, seized the opportunity to dismiss any possibility of the Catalan club securing the striker’s signature, as reported by Diario AS.

“Harry Kane is the best transfer we’ve ever made. FC Bayern is a club that buys, not sells. He won’t be leaving, and Barcelona have no money anyway.”

Does Barcelona Stand Any Chance of Signing Kane?

Undoubtedly, signing Kane would be a phenomenal acquisition for Barcelona. He is arguably one of the world’s best players at present, and with the support of players like Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, and Pedri, he could surpass the impressive 61 goals he scored for Bayern in the 2025-26 season.

Nevertheless, securing such a deal would be exceptionally challenging, even if a release clause is confirmed. Kane appears content in Bavaria, and while the prospect of joining Barcelona might be attractive, there’s no certainty he would actively push for the move to materialize.
