German Bundesliga clubs collectively spent nearly €250 million on consultant fees during the 2023/24 season, setting a new record for the league. Bayern Munich accounted for the largest share, paying a substantial €51.195 million to agencies. They were followed by Borussia Dortmund (€36.632 million), RB Leipzig (€35.216 million), and Eintracht Frankfurt (€24.095 million).
Across all 18 teams, payments to consultancies reached an all-time high of €249.717 million. This marks a significant rise from the €187.819 million spent in the preceding 2022/23 season, although the prior year`s total might have been slightly higher than reported due to Eintracht Frankfurt`s accounting method at the time.
The increase in fees is largely attributed to the surge in transfer activity and associated revenues. In the 2023/24 campaign, Bundesliga clubs generated approximately €1.06 billion from player sales, a substantial increase of about €450 million compared to the previous season. Concurrently, spending on new players also rose, reaching €840 million, nearly €300 million more than the year before.
This period saw major transfers like Harry Kane`s move to Bayern Munich for around €95 million and Jude Bellingham`s departure from Borussia Dortmund to Real Madrid for €113 million. The substantial involvement of agents and intermediaries in such high-profile deals directly contributed to the higher commission payments across the league.
