The German Football League (DFL) has announced that the 2025/26 Bundesliga season will commence with a high-profile match between FC Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig.
This highly anticipated fixture is scheduled for Friday, August 22nd, 2025, kicking off at 8:30 PM CET (7:30 PM UK time) at Bayern`s home ground, the Allianz Arena.
This opening match will follow FC Bayern`s participation in the newly renamed Franz Beckenbauer Super Cup (formerly the DFL Super Cup) six days prior, where they will face DFB Pokal winners VfB Stuttgart at the MHP Arena.
Recall their last encounter in Leipzig in early May, a thrilling 3-3 draw where Bayern fought back from a two-goal deficit to lead 3-2, only for Leipzig to secure a dramatic equalizer in the 95th minute.
Looking back at the current season`s curtain-raiser between Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Mönchengladbach, that match also delivered excitement. Gladbach similarly recovered from being 2-0 down, leveling the score in the 85th minute, before Leverkusen ultimately won after Florian Wirtz missed a penalty but netted the rebound.
The full schedule for the 2025/26 Bundesliga season is expected to be announced tomorrow, Friday, June 27th, at 2:00 PM CET (1:00 PM UK time).
