Lisbon, Portugal / Istanbul, Turkey – Sport Lisboa e Benfica has formally announced an agreement for the transfer of midfielder Orkun Kökçü to Turkish club Besiktas JK. The confirmation came via an official communication from the Portuguese Primeira Liga side, detailing the structure and financial terms of the transaction.
The move sees Kökçü join Besiktas on an initial loan basis. However, this is not a speculative temporary switch, as the agreement includes a mandatory purchase clause. This clause is fixed at €25 million, obligating Besiktas to complete the permanent transfer at this valuation.
Adding a potential upside to the deal for Benfica, the total value of the transfer could escalate. Performance-related objectives have been incorporated into the agreement, which, if met, could see the final transfer fee rise to €30 million.
The official statement from Benfica also addressed specific technical details often associated with international football transfers. Notably, Besiktas is stipulated to retain the 5% solidarity mechanism fee. This portion is traditionally disbursed to clubs involved in the player`s training and education from ages 12 to 23. By retaining this percentage, Besiktas assumes responsibility for distributing these funds to the relevant youth clubs.
Furthermore, the statement explicitly mentioned that Benfica will not incur any costs related to intermediation or agency services for this transfer. This detail is often highlighted by clubs to provide transparency regarding transaction expenses.
