An anonymous annual survey conducted by kicker among 218 Bundesliga players sought opinions on various topics, including the best and most disappointing players. Here is a summary of the results:
In the vote for the Bundesliga Player of the Season, Bayer Leverkusen`s Florian Wirtz emerged victorious, receiving 28.2% of the votes. This follows his recent recognition as the VDV (German Football Players Association) Player of the Season for the second consecutive year. Michael Olise of Bayern Munich secured second place with 26.4%.
Other players receiving significant votes included Omar Marmoush (4.2%), Serhou Guirassy (4.2%), Harry Kane (3.7%), and Nick Woltemade (3.7%).
Players also cast their votes for the most disappointing performer of the season. João Palhinha from Bayern Munich topped this list with 13.4%. Julian Brandt was second with 10.2%, followed by Victor Boniface (6.9%), Deniz Undav (5.6%), and Xavi Simons (4.6%) in the top five. It`s worth noting that this year`s votes for this category were more dispersed compared to previous years, where Naby Keita (25%) and Sadio Mané (41.7%) received much higher percentages as the top choice.
For the Best Coach award, Julian Schuster received 31.5% of the votes. Bo Henriksen, Vincent Kompany, Niko Kovac, and Dino Toppmöller were also recognized. Conversely, Nuri Şahin was voted the most disappointing coach with 34.7%. The former Borussia Dortmund manager was followed in this ranking by Ralph Hasenhüttl, Marco Rose, Christian Ilzer, and Peter Ziedler.
Finally, Mainz was named the surprise club of the season, garnering 49.5% of the votes, ahead of SC Freiburg and Eintracht Frankfurt. On the other hand, Hoffenheim was deemed the most disappointing club with 48.1%, followed by RB Leipzig and Wolfsburg.
