David Moyes’s aspirations for European football are now precariously balanced. Facing a Crystal Palace team seemingly focused on their Conference League campaign, Everton squandered a prime opportunity to reduce the deficit to their competitors. Jean-Philippe Mateta, coming on as a substitute, netted the equalizer after Everton had twice held the advantage, thanks to goals from James Tarkowski and Beto. The situation could have deteriorated further for Moyes, were it not for Adam Wharton’s shot hitting the outside of the post in the final minute. The closing stages were a whirlwind, with Dean Henderson making a crucial save against Iliman Ndiaye in added time, followed by Mateta missing a significant chance to secure victory for Oliver Glasner’s team.
