Ipswich Town defender Dara O`Shea has reportedly finalized terms on a new long-term contract with the club, securing his future until 2030.
Following the agreement, O`Shea has clearly stated his ambition to play a key role in guiding Ipswich Town back to the Premier League.
The club has officially confirmed the defender`s new agreement this summer, a move that follows their recent relegation from the top flight. O`Shea joined the Suffolk-based side last summer, arriving from Burnley after Ipswich secured promotion under manager Kieran McKenna.
He participated in 35 Premier League matches during the past season, where the team finished 19th. His initial transfer to the club was reportedly valued at around £20.4 million (€24 million).
O’Shea Expresses Desire for Premier League Return
O`Shea articulated his strong wish to once again compete in the Premier League while representing Ipswich. He highlighted the positive dynamics and strong personalities within the team`s dressing room.
He emphasized his commitment to bringing success back to the club and voiced his confidence that Ipswich can continue its development despite returning to the Championship.
Quoted on the club’s official website, O’Shea stated:
`I’m really happy and very proud to have signed a new contract at Ipswich Town.`
`We learned a lot last season and that will be really important for us going forward.`
`I’m glad to have signed this new contract and I am ready to get to work again in pre-season.`
`There are good characters and good human beings at this club and I want to help deliver success again and help the club get back into the Premier League.`
`This is a massive club but it can continue to grow and I`m excited.`
Premier League Interest Reportedly Dismissed
O’Shea`s decision to sign a new deal with Ipswich comes despite reports suggesting interest from several Premier League clubs.
Earlier this month, The Irish Sun reported that clubs like Wolves and his former club Burnley, who are now also back in the top flight, were monitoring the defender`s situation.
O’Shea`s newly signed contract keeps him at Portman Road until the summer of 2030.
Securing O’Shea is a Significant Boost for Ipswich
O’Shea was a consistent and important player for Ipswich last year, and losing him would have been a considerable setback. He has demonstrated his quality as a top-tier Championship player with the potential to perform in the Premier League over the long term.
Retaining him provides a major boost to Kieran McKenna’s squad as they focus on achieving immediate promotion back to the top flight. Keeping hold of key players like O`Shea helps position the Tractor Boys as potential favorites for a top-two finish in the Championship next season. This commitment from the players will undoubtedly excite fans, confirming that their focus is firmly on promotion rather than seeking moves elsewhere.
