Following the match between PSG and Bayern, Gianluigi Donnarumma reached out to Jamal Musiala. The Italian European champion goalkeeper was involved in the play during the Club World Cup quarter-final where he injured the 22-year-old German with a low tackle. According to reports, Donnarumma wanted to inquire about Musiala`s condition after the game.
Reports indicate that Donnarumma went to the Bayern Munich dressing room to check on Musiala after the serious injury, but the player had already been transported to the hospital for examination and necessary treatment. It was there that the extent of the injury was determined: a fractured fibula with damaged ligaments, requiring an estimated 4-5 months recovery time. Despite this, the former AC Milan player chose to send Musiala several messages to express his sympathy and wish him a prompt recovery. Despite being in pain and a difficult moment, Musiala managed to reply to Donnarumma and exchange a few messages.
Commenting on the incident, Manuel Neuer, Musiala`s teammate and Bayern Munich`s goalkeeper, openly criticized Donnarumma: “It was a situation where it wasn`t necessary to challenge that way. It involves taking risks. He was prepared to accept the risk of injuring an opponent. I approached him and asked: `Aren`t you going to check on our player?` It`s about respect, about going over and wishing him well. He did eventually, but fair play should be instinctive.”
