Dyrachyo Recounts Teaching Bzm a Key Dota 2 Fundamental: Push Before You Gank

Esports

Professional Dota 2 player Anton `Dyrachyo` Shkredov of Tundra Esports recently shared some illuminating memories from his early days competing alongside former teammate Bozhidar `bzm` Bogdanov. Dyrachyo`s anecdote offers a surprising glimpse into the learning curve even top-tier players navigate, focusing on a seemingly basic, yet crucial, strategic element.

According to Dyrachyo, one specific concept he needed to impress upon bzm involved the timing and execution of ganks – coordinated attacks on enemy heroes in another lane. The core of the lesson was surprisingly fundamental: the necessity of managing one`s own lane state, particularly the creep wave, before abandoning it for a gank attempt.

Dyrachyo recounted his advice to bzm, specifically regarding bzm`s Invoker play:

“I told him: `Bzm, my brother, if you`re going to gank on your messed-up Invoker, you have to push the wave, even if you have Quas-Wex Invoker. You have to push and then go gank.`”

The Tundra carry highlighted the state bzm was sometimes leaving his lane in:

“Imagine, his creeps are hitting the tower [on his own side], and he goes to gank, finds nobody, and he`s, you know, shocked, tilted. It`s natural you won`t find anyone [or achieve anything efficient].”

This situation, where a player leaves their lane while their own creeps are under tower attack, is highly inefficient in Dota 2. Pushing the wave first denies the enemy gold and experience from the creeps (who die to the tower), buys time before the enemy wave threatens one`s own tower, and creates space on the map. Attempting a gank without this basic calculus often results in lost lane advantage and wasted map movement, leading precisely to the frustration Dyrachyo described bzm experiencing.

The anecdote underscores that while mechanical skill and complex strategies are paramount at the professional level, continuous learning and refinement of even fundamental game sense are vital. It serves as a perhaps slightly ironic reminder that mastering Dota 2 is an ongoing process, even for those competing at the highest echelons of esports.

In unrelated recent news, Dyrachyo also mentioned receiving a temporary ban on Twitch while casting the Riyadh Masters 2025, stating he was unclear on the reasons behind the action.
