Real Madrid midfielder Fede Valverde has given Los Blancos the lead at the Santiago Bernabeu, breaking the deadlock after a goalless first half against Girona. The Uruguayan midfielder added another impressive goal to his tally with a strike from outside the box. However, Girona has since managed to level the score.
The Catalan side had limited Real Madrid to only a few half-chances in the second half, with goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga making a notable save from Valverde earlier in the period. Girona also posed a threat with a couple of dangerous attacks of their own, and would have been satisfied with their performance up to that point.
Fede Valverde’s Opener
The opening goal was set up by Brahim Diaz. He pressed high up the pitch to win possession from Girona, then played the ball to Valverde on the edge of the penalty area. Valverde unleashed a powerful shot that flew past Gazzaniga, who was unable to make a save.
Thomas Lemar’s Equalizer
Just eleven minutes later, Girona found their way back into the game. They had begun to apply pressure and were allowed to play the ball around the edge of the box. Thomas Lemar capitalized on the opportunity, drilling an effort into the bottom right corner of the net to equalize for Girona.
