Fluminense midfielder Gustavo Nonato, currently on loan from Santos and a key player for the Brazilian side, spoke to FIFA channels just two days before their Club World Cup Round of 16 match against Inter. Nonato described the situation: “It`s an incredible moment for me, for the team, for the fans, for our country. Having four Brazilian teams reach the Round of 16 feels amazing. We need to rest a little now, but truly savour this moment because it`s unique in the club`s history.”
He added that the success of Brazilian teams isn`t unexpected for them. “It`s not a surprise for us, as we already knew our own level and quality of play,” he stated. “This tournament gives us the perfect chance to showcase the quality of the Brazilian league.”
When asked about their objective, Nonato replied, “I believe our purpose is to be here and demonstrate our level, the quality of our players, and our playing style. I`m very pleased with our team and how we`ve performed.” He also highlighted the contribution of the supporters: “The Brazilian fans have also been absolute stars of the Club World Cup, supporting their clubs in huge numbers in stadiums all over the United States.”
Asked what he would say to the fans, Nonato commented, “The fans have been putting on a show. They are supporting our team, driving us forward, and I think the synergy between the team and the fans is incredible. This is a truly unique moment in my life.”
