Alvaro Arbeloa Not Dwelling on Future Ahead of Bayern Munich Showdown

Real Madrid coach Alvaro Arbeloa has affirmed that his personal future is not a priority as he readies his team for their Champions League quarter-final encounter against Bayern Munich. Coming off a recent loss to RCD Mallorca on Saturday, the Champions League arguably presents a more attainable trophy for Los Blancos compared to the domestic league.

With a seven-point deficit behind Barcelona and only eight matches remaining, many observers consider the Spanish league title race to be effectively over. Consequently, Arbeloa's tenure at the club might largely depend on Real Madrid's success in the Champions League. He explicitly stated that he is not contemplating the scenario where a defeat by Bayern could seal his fate.

“We are not entertaining the thought of failing to win this tie,” Arbeloa declared. “I recognize that one must evaluate all potential outcomes, but for us, there is only a single objective: to overcome Bayern. That is our desire and our conviction.”

Arbeloa Addresses Coaching Philosophy: ‘I Don’t Align Myself With Any Specific Approach’

Unlike Xabi Alonso, who was often portrayed as a tactical genius struggling to build rapport with his squad, Arbeloa is frequently characterized as more of a 'man manager' than a coach strictly adhering to a predefined tactical system. However, Arbeloa himself suggested he doesn't fit neatly into either description.

“I don’t categorize myself in any particular school of thought, regardless of where others might place me,” he asserted. “My primary focus is to prepare my teams thoroughly for the challenges they will encounter on the field and to maximize the potential of every individual player. A coach must possess the versatility to handle all aspects.”

‘Defeat is Unacceptable at Real Madrid’

When questioned about the team’s reaction to their recent loss against Los Bermellones, Arbeloa conveyed that the players were deeply affected.

“It was a dressing room similar to any other after a defeat,” he explained, “though perhaps with more profound disappointment, because if there is one club where losing is simply not endured, it is Real Madrid.”

Real Madrid Players Face Suspension Threat

Heading into the upcoming match, Real Madrid will be missing Dani Ceballos, Ferland Mendy, and Thibaut Courtois due to absence. Furthermore, several vital players are on the verge of suspension for the return leg; however, Arbeloa indicated he has no intention of cautioning his players to alter their playstyle.

“It’s not required,” Arbeloa stated. “They are well aware that they are one yellow card away from a suspension. Nonetheless, tomorrow’s game is a critical, make-or-break encounter, and they understand that if a booking is necessary for the team’s benefit, they will incur it. We have, however, had to contend with players on yellow cards for an excessive number of games already.”

In total, seven players could be sidelined for the second leg in Munich if they receive a yellow card. It’s worth noting that six of these are arguably first-team regulars, with the seventh, Rodrygo Goes, already out due to injury. The players at risk include Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Junior, Aurelien Tchouameni, Alvaro Carreras, and Dean Huijsen.
