Arbeloa's Defiant Message After Real Madrid's Bayern Defeat: "Believers Only" For UCL Second Leg
Real Madrid's Champions League aspirations are now precarious following their 2-1 home defeat to Bayern Munich on Tuesday. With the Bundesliga champions holding a crucial lead, next week's second leg in Germany presents a formidable challenge for the Spanish giants.
According to Diario AS, head coach Alvaro Arbeloa discussed the loss at the Bernabeu. He attributed his side's struggles to specific factors, particularly in the first half, while expressing satisfaction with their improvement after the break.
"Perhaps we conceded too much control," Arbeloa remarked. "While on the ball, there were instances where we aimed to retain possession. It's simple to comment from afar, but if you don't keep the ball, you commit fouls, you put them under pressure... it becomes very challenging. We rectified this somewhat in the second half. Despite the setback, we are still very much in contention. We're just one goal shy of levelling the tie. We have demonstrated our ability to win on any pitch, evidenced by the opportunities we created. The opposition certainly didn't make it easy, and it's regrettable we couldn't add another goal."
Arbeloa Explains Bellingham's Bench Role
Jude Bellingham made a significant impact as a substitute for Real Madrid, and Arbeloa is eager to integrate him into the starting lineup for future matches once fully fit.
Addressing Bellingham's situation, Arbeloa clarified, "It's not about deserving a starting place, nor do I wish to keep him out; it's purely because he was sidelined for an extended period due to injury. My intentions are clear. I hope to play Jude for the full 90 minutes in every match. He contributed immensely, alleviating pressure on Bayern, and I believe his presence greatly enhanced our play. He will be instrumental for us in Munich."
Arbeloa Confident Real Madrid Can Challenge Bayern Away
Despite trailing heading into the away fixture, Arbeloa remains steadfast in his belief that his team can advance. He cites their numerous scoring opportunities from Tuesday's match as evidence of their potential to hurt Bayern.
"It signifies our capacity to inflict damage," Arbeloa asserted. "We will gain valuable lessons from this encounter. We haven't had as much time to prepare for this specific tie; Bayern arrived as a more cohesive unit, having played together longer."
He concluded with a powerful message: "Anyone lacking faith should remain in Madrid. My players possess immense character; their immediate reaction in the dressing room was a resolute declaration that we will secure victory there."
