Atletico Madrid Tables €40M Offer for Atalanta Midfielder Ederson
Atletico Madrid is making an early move in the transfer market, well ahead of the official summer window. The club's sporting director, Mateu Alemany, has identified a new midfielder as a top priority, with Atalanta's Brazilian star, Ederson dos Santos, being their primary target.
Atleti previously attempted to acquire Ederson during the winter transfer period, but their offer was rejected. Consequently, they shifted their focus to Rodrigo Mendoza and Obed Vargas. However, their interest in Ederson has persisted, and they are determined to pursue him again this summer.
Alemany recently confirmed Atletico's ongoing interest in Ederson. According to Alfredo Pedulla, an official offer has already been made to Atalanta. Los Colchoneros are prepared to pay €35 million upfront, supplemented by €5 million in bonuses, for the 26-year-old midfielder. This proposal has been formally communicated to the Serie A club.
Atalanta Seeks Over €40M for Ederson
Despite Atletico's initial bid, it appears Atalanta is holding out for a higher valuation. The Italian club is reportedly seeking a fixed fee exceeding €40 million, alongside additional add-ons. This could push the total transfer value closer to €50 million. While potentially still within Atletico's budget, such an expenditure might be considerable given other transfer needs throughout the summer.
Although Atletico's initial offer has not met Atalanta's demands, the situation may eventually favor the Spanish club. Ederson's current contract with Atalanta expires in the summer of 2027, meaning he will soon enter the final two years of his deal. This timeline could put pressure on the Serie A side to cash in, especially if a contract extension doesn't materialize.
The outcome of negotiations for Ederson remains to be seen. Securing a deal before the summer transfer window officially opens would be strategic for Atletico, as interest from several Premier League clubs is anticipated to intensify in the coming months.
