Barcelona draw up three-man shortlist to replace Alejandro Balde
Hansi Flick's Barcelona squad is slated for several new acquisitions, with the left-back position emerging as a key area of focus. The prospect of Joao Cancelo joining permanently this summer is uncertain, and there are lingering doubts about the futures of Alejandro Balde and Gerard Martin, which could necessitate bringing in a new player.
Currently, Barcelona is reportedly unwilling to meet Al Hilal's asking price for Cancelo. Meanwhile, Balde, for whom the Catalan giants are prepared to entertain offers, has been linked with Manchester United, and Martin with AC Milan. In anticipation of a potential shortfall at left-back, sporting director Deco has begun scouting the market for suitable replacements and has reportedly narrowed down his options to three players: Alejandro Grimaldo, Andrea Cambiaso, and Lewis Hall.
Grimaldo Leads the Pack
Alejandro Grimaldo, a graduate of Barcelona's renowned La Masia academy, has been a long-standing target for the club and nearly rejoined last summer. He is widely considered a perfect fit for Hansi Flick's playing style, making him a highly attractive option if one or both current left-backs depart.
Andrea Cambiaso is placed lower on the priority list, primarily because Juventus is expected to demand at least €30 million for his services. However, his ability to play effectively on both flanks, similar to Cancelo, gives him a notable advantage over other candidates on Barcelona's shortlist.
Lewis Hall is the most recent addition to the potential targets. He made a strong impression during the recent Champions League Round of 16 encounter between Barcelona and Newcastle United. Despite this, the Premier League club is reportedly unwilling to sanction a sale for anything less than €50-60 million, citing his young age and his status as a regular England international.
Given their plans to recruit a new centre-back, a left winger, and a striker during the summer transfer window, Barcelona is unlikely to have substantial funds available for a new full-back. These financial considerations will likely dictate their eventual decision, though it remains probable that Balde and Martin will stay unless their respective valuations are met.
