Barcelona Nears Permanent Deal for Rising Star Patricio Pacifico
FC Barcelona appears poised to secure the long-term future of one of its recent January additions. Uruguayan left-back Patricio Pacifico has made a significant impact during his short time with Barca Atletic, drawing positive reviews for his performances.
Pacifico joined the club in January as part of a strategic recruitment drive led by Deco, aimed at strengthening Barca Atletic. The team, managed by Juliano Belletti, is currently pushing for a spot in the Segunda RFEF play-offs. Along with Dutch central defender Juwensley Onstein and Real Oviedo forward Joaquin Delgado, Pacifico was among the new arrivals. After an initial month on the sidelines in Catalonia, he has since featured prominently, starting in all four of Barca Atletic’s most recent fixtures.
Details of the Patricio Pacifico Agreement
The initial arrangement with Defensor Sporting from Uruguay was a loan agreement valid until the season's end. A clause stipulated that if Pacifico played 30 minutes in 10 games for Barca Atletic, the deal would automatically convert into a permanent transfer for 50% of his economic rights, valued at €1.8 million. With only five regular season matches remaining, this condition can no longer be met. However, if Belletti’s side advances to the play-offs, the option could still become a compulsory purchase should Pacifico participate in those matches.
Barcelona also retains the flexibility to independently exercise a purchase option at the close of the season. To acquire 80% of Pacifico’s rights, the Blaugrana would need to pay €2.8 million.
Barcelona Leaning Towards Permanent Acquisition
Reports indicate that Barcelona is inclined to make Pacifico’s move permanent regardless of the specific clauses being met. Pacifico has demonstrated versatility and talent, excelling both at left-back and as a central defender. His ability to win individual duels and his skill on the ball have been particularly noted. This operation is widely considered beneficial for both the player and the club.
Pacifico has adapted exceptionally well to his new environment, displaying a maturity that has impressed club officials. A final decision regarding his future is expected to be made in the coming weeks.
