Barcelona Secures License to Expand Camp Nou Capacity for Upcoming Matches
Barcelona has received official approval to fully open the fourth stand at Camp Nou, significantly increasing its matchday capacity. Previously, the stadium operated at a reduced capacity of 46,400 fans with only three stands open, as the Gol Nord stand had not met the City Council's safety regulations.
Despite earlier projections for a mid-January 2026 reopening, the project faced several delays. However, following a recent inspection, the City Council has now given the green light for the activation of the final reopening phase, known as '1C'.
This expansion will add approximately 16,000 new seats, boosting the stadium's capacity by about one-third and consequently increasing potential revenue. Reports indicate that the new capacity will reach 62,700 for the remainder of the season. The club aims to open the newly available sections for their home game against Sevilla this Sunday (16:15 CEST), a day that also coincides with the presidential election between Joan Laporta and Victor Font.
Furthermore, the Catalan giants are actively seeking UEFA approval to utilize the expanded capacity for their crucial Champions League Round of 16 return leg against Newcastle United next Wednesday. A substantial portion of the new seats, specifically 14,000, will be allocated to club members who will have the opportunity to purchase season tickets for the rest of the campaign. The complete reopening of the stadium's third tier is anticipated for the next season.
