Barcelona's Pursuit of €40m Winger Victor Munoz Complicated by Real Madrid's Buy-Back Clause
Barcelona is actively seeking alternatives to Marcus Rashford, whose return to Manchester United after his loan spell appears increasingly unlikely. The Catalan club aims to rejuvenate its squad by bringing in a young winger to complement Raphinha, with Jan Virgili being mentioned as a primary candidate.
Beyond Virgili, Barcelona is evaluating several other young wing options. According to MD, one such player is Osasuna's 22-year-old Victor Munoz. Since joining from Real Madrid last summer, Munoz has been a revelation at El Sadar, recently earning his first call-up to the Spanish national team. He has contributed six goals and five assists for Los Rojillos so far.
While Barcelona has received numerous positive reports about Munoz, they acknowledge that securing a deal this summer will be exceptionally difficult. Osasuna will only consider selling him if his €40 million release clause is activated. Even if the Catalans were to agree to this payment (which is highly improbable), their efforts could be thwarted by Real Madrid.
Real Madrid Holds a Buy-Back Option for Munoz
Osasuna's sporting director, Braulio Vazquez, recently confirmed that Real Madrid possesses a multi-year buy-back clause for Munoz, set at a significantly lower price than his release clause. Should Barcelona make a move for the player, it is highly probable that Los Blancos would activate their option to bring him back to the Bernabeu, especially given their satisfaction with his performances in Pamplona.
Considering these circumstances, Barcelona faces a considerable challenge in signing Munoz this summer, despite him being a potentially excellent addition to Hansi Flick's squad. Real Madrid would be unwilling to see a talent from their "La Fábrica" academy end up at Spotify Camp Nou, thereby ceding control of his future to their fiercest rivals.
Barcelona might still attempt to sign Munoz, but it would be no surprise if they ultimately turn their attention to alternative targets.
