Bayern Munich Manager Vincent Kompany Optimistic About Harry Kane's Fitness for Real Madrid Clash
Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has expressed optimism regarding the availability of star striker Harry Kane for their pivotal Champions League encounter against Real Madrid next week. Kane recently sat out England's second international fixture due to muscle discomfort and has not yet resumed training with the club.
Kane represents the primary offensive threat feared by Real Madrid in the upcoming quarter-final, enjoying what is arguably the most prolific season of his career. To date, he boasts an impressive tally of 48 goals in 40 appearances this season. Alongside teammates Luis Diaz and Michael Olise, Kane forms a formidable attacking triumvirate that has been instrumental in dismantling much of the opposition Bayern has faced this campaign.
Kompany Positive on Kane's Condition
Speaking ahead of Bayern's Bundesliga match against Freiburg this weekend, Kompany conveyed to BILD his hope that Kane would be fit to travel to Madrid next week. Nevertheless, Bayern supporters will undoubtedly be apprehensive, as Kane is not deemed fit enough to make the bench for this weekend’s league game, even if this decision is primarily a precautionary measure.
Kompany elaborated on Kane's situation: "Harry trained well until Sunday. Subsequently, he felt something in his ankle while on international duty. This issue will prevent him from participating in tomorrow's game; he will not be available. It is not ideal. However, I remain optimistic for Tuesday's match."
Real Madrid's Injury Status
On Real Madrid's side, the most significant absence is that of goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who is anticipated to miss both legs of the quarter-final tie. While Andriy Lunin has capably filled in when required, his shot-stopping prowess is arguably not on par with the Belgian's world-class ability. Manager Carlo Ancelotti confirmed earlier this week that Éder Militão has regained fitness. As it stands, Ferland Mendy and Rodrygo Goes appear to be the only players who will sit out the first leg at the Santiago Bernabéu due to injury. Jude Bellingham is also fit again, though starting the game is considered an outside chance, given he has only played 20 minutes since early February.
