Enzo Fernandez Reportedly Eager for Real Madrid Move Despite Public Denials

Real Madrid has long held an interest in Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez, and this summer could present the prime opportunity for him to make the switch. With no direct replacements signed for midfield stalwarts Luka Modric or Toni Kroos, Los Blancos are expected to prioritize a new central midfielder this summer, with Fernandez emerging as a strong candidate.

The 25-year-old has been on Real Madrid's radar since his days at River Plate, and their interest persisted even before his move from Benfica to Chelsea. While Fernandez previously maintained a reserved stance on his future amidst rumored interest from Paris Saint-Germain, and a rejected proposal from Saudi club Al-Ittihad (as reported by Talksport), he reportedly favors a move to La Liga over PSG.

Enzo Fernandez Comments on Real Madrid Interest

Approached by reporters while joining the Argentina squad this week, Fernandez addressed the speculation linking him to Real Madrid, stating:

“We’ll see after the World Cup. We’ve had zero talks as of now. Honestly, nothing yet [with Real Madrid]. Now I am focused on Chelsea and what’s left in the last few games this season.”

Move Reportedly Appeals to Fernandez

Despite no formal approach from Real Madrid yet, Fernandez remains on their shortlist for the summer window. Talksport suggests that, despite the lack of official movement, Fernandez would be receptive to what he considers a ‘dream move’ to the Spanish capital. His reported dissatisfaction with the recent sacking of Enzo Maresca and a strong desire for consistent Champions League football—something not guaranteed at Chelsea—are believed to be contributing factors.

However, Chelsea is said to be unfazed by these developments. Fernandez remains under contract until 2030, and the club is reportedly willing to offer him an improved new deal to secure his long-term future.

While Los Blancos appear set to acquire a midfielder this summer, Fernandez is expected to command a significant transfer fee. Chelsea has little incentive to reduce the €120m they paid for him, a sum that would represent a considerable investment for Real Madrid to acquire a 25-year-old player.
