La Liga Star Alex Remiro Considers Barcelona Transfer
Barcelona is reportedly looking for a new goalkeeper this summer as potential changes loom. With Marc-Andre ter Stegen possibly departing if an opportunity arises, and Wojciech Szczesny contemplating retirement by 2026, the Catalan club will need a strong candidate, especially since Iñaki Peña is not considered an ideal long-term backup to Joan García.
Real Sociedad and Spain international Alex Remiro has emerged as a leading target for the club's officials ahead of the summer transfer window.
Barcelona's sporting director, Deco, has reportedly already engaged in discussions with Remiro's representatives. When recently questioned about these transfer rumors, Remiro did not dismiss the possibility of a move to the Spotify Camp Nou.
“I’ve heard something on social media, but right now I’m entirely focused on Real Sociedad. We have the Copa del Rey final coming up, and we're very focused and eager to win it. Barça? You never know,” Remiro stated, as reported by La Sexta (via Sport).
Remiro on Competing with Joan García
Should Remiro join Barcelona, he would face competition from Joan García for the starting goalkeeper position. He is also currently competing against the 24-year-old for a spot in Spain’s squad for the 2026 World Cup, a rivalry he appears to relish.
“He sees himself at the World Cup, and I see myself too. Regardless of what happens, Spain will have three excellent goalkeepers. If he calls me a ‘cat,’ then he must be a ‘panther’ or something even better. He’s phenomenal. I’m pleased to train and learn from him, to pick up his good qualities. It’s a joy to train with him because he's excellent in goal, great with his feet, and a true leader…” Remiro elaborated.
It will be interesting to observe whether Barcelona makes a move for Remiro this summer. However, the Real Sociedad goalkeeper's apparent openness to the transfer will undoubtedly be encouraging for Deco and his team.
