Gil Vicente Strengthens Squad with Goalkeeper Dani Figueira Signing

Football News

The Portuguese top flight, the Primeira Liga, sees a familiar face make a divisional return and a club switch. Goalkeeper Dani Figueira, a 26-year-old shot-stopper, has officially completed his transfer to Gil Vicente Futebol Clube.

Figueira makes the move after a considerable six-year tenure with Estoril Praia. During his time with the “Canarinhos,” he amassed a respectable 131 official appearances, becoming a well-known figure at the club.

Interestingly, the past season (2024-2025) saw Figueira gain experience away from Estoril, having been loaned to Leixões SC in the second tier (II Liga). His signing with Gil Vicente marks his return to the Primeira Liga, where he will look to establish himself as a key player for the Barcelos-based side.

Gil Vicente has secured Figueira`s services on a contract valid for the next two seasons, adding depth and competition to their goalkeeping department.

Upon confirming his departure, Estoril Praia issued a public statement acknowledging Figueira`s contributions over his half-dozen years at the club. Their message conveyed gratitude for his “dedication and professionalism” shown throughout his extensive stay and extended best wishes for his future endeavors, both personally and professionally. An amicable parting of ways, it seems, which is always a positive note in the often tumultuous world of football transfers.

Figueira`s arrival is expected to be a calculated move by Gil Vicente to bolster their squad ahead of the demanding Primeira Liga campaign. Fans will be keen to see how the experienced goalkeeper performs in his new colours.
