Hans-Dieter Flick Discusses Robert Lewandowski’s Departure from Barcelona

Football

Robert Lewandowski has announced his intention to depart from Barcelona following the conclusion of the 2025-26 season. The Polish striker has opted not to extend his stay at Spotify Camp Nou, meaning he will leave upon the expiration of his contract in June.

Naturally, Lewandowski’s impending departure was the central topic during Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick’s pre-match press conference in anticipation of Sunday’s fixture against Real Betis, which will mark the veteran number nine’s final game at Spotify Camp Nou. Flick expressed his appreciation for the player with whom he has collaborated for several years, both in Bavaria and Catalonia.

“The conversation was positive. All my titles have been achieved with him. It has been a privilege for me to have him and work alongside him. He is an exceptional professional, consistently performing at the highest level and maintaining his physical condition. I will never forget him. He serves as an inspiration to young players. I believe this departure is beneficial for him, and potentially for the club as it allows us to restructure the team. We did discuss this beforehand. He informed the dressing room of his decision. We are all aware of his caliber as a player.”

Flick Acknowledges the Challenge of Replacing Lewandowski

Flick confirmed that Lewandowski will be in the starting lineup against Real Betis and also addressed the potential signing of a replacement during the upcoming summer transfer window.

“He will start tomorrow because he has earned it. I am uncertain about the specifics of next season. We will explore the market, but a replacement has not yet been secured. We have time. Finding a player of his caliber will not be straightforward. I have stated this previously. He is a remarkable individual and a spectacular professional. We will miss his presence, but we will manage. We will undertake a team restructuring.”
