The games Horizon Chase Turbo and its mobile predecessor, Horizon Chase, are set to be delisted from digital storefronts on June 1st. This means that new purchases will not be possible after the specified date. However, existing owners of these games will still be able to download and play them.
At first glance, this decision appears rather peculiar. Horizon Chase Turbo is a pure arcade racer, devoid of licensed vehicles or real-world racing circuits like Monaco or Mount Panorama. It features fictional tracks with names such as ‘Morning Walk’ and ‘Asphalt and Sunshine,’ which typically eliminates costs associated with licensing. Furthermore, Horizon Chase Turbo lacks any online functionality.
The situation becomes clearer when considering that Aquiris, the studio behind Horizon Chase, is owned by Epic Games. And Epic Games, as recently reported, laid off over 1,000 employees. It is likely that this delisting of games is a consequence of the extensive workforce reductions at Epic Games. We have sent inquiries to both Aquiris and Epic to obtain official comments regarding the reasons for these actions and their impact on the studio.
Notably, Horizon Chase 2 will remain available. Initially released as an Apple Arcade exclusive in 2022, the game made its way to PC and consoles the following year.
