Inter Milan: Chivu Arrives, Announcement and First Words

Football News

Cristian Chivu is officially the new head coach of Inter Milan. The club announced his appointment recently via a press release, welcoming the former defender with a contract valid until June 30, 2027. After successfully stepping in and guiding Parma to a difficult salvation in the final part of last season, Chivu – who had resolved his contract with the Ducali earlier in the day – will now lead Inter in an ambitious season. This campaign will kick off with the Club World Cup in the United States, where he will also be officially presented.

In the extensive statement published by Inter, the club recounted the career and deep connection of the Romanian coach with the Nerazzurri colors. As a player, he won everything, including the Champions League and Scudetto as part of the historic Triplete side, becoming a symbol of resilience after the terrible skull fracture he suffered in 2010. After retiring, he undertook a coaching path within the Inter youth sector, culminating in winning the Primavera Scudetto in 2022 before his recent experience at Parma.

“Honored by the assignment,” Chivu stated to the official channel, promising “passion, ambition,” and an Inter team ready “to fight for trophies.” The initial objective will be the Club World Cup: “We must go all the way and try to win a trophy.” His official presentation to the press will take place directly in the United States. Inter president Beppe Marotta also expressed his satisfaction with the choice: “The pride comes from having linked a historic Inter name to the coaching role. Many values are embodied in him.”

The name of his assistant coach is still to be defined. Antonio Gagliardi will not follow Chivu to Inter and is evaluating offers from foreign clubs. Walter Samuel, who was contacted, declined the offer to remain on the staff of the Argentine national team. The possibility of Giovanni Martusciello also fell through, blocked by bureaucratic issues related to his existing contract with Salernitana.
