Chelsea has decided not to make Jadon Sancho`s move permanent. The London club opted against exercising the purchase option for the English winger, choosing instead to pay a penalty fee of £5 million (approximately €6 million) to facilitate his return to Manchester United.
The player, born in 2000, will therefore depart from Stamford Bridge at the conclusion of his loan spell, set for June 30th. A permanent transfer agreement could not be reached despite a clause that allowed for a potential purchase up to £25 million. This clause was contingent on agreeing personal terms, which ultimately didn`t happen. A key factor in this decision was reportedly the wage structure limits imposed by the new ownership group led by Todd Boehly.
Sancho`s tenure with the Blues concludes with statistics showing 2426 minutes played, contributing 5 goals and 10 assists across various competitions, including the Premier League, Europa Conference League, FA Cup, and Community Shield. While his contribution was considered positive, it was seemingly not enough to guarantee his place in a technical project focused on new priorities.
The former Borussia Dortmund attacker shared a farewell message to his now former club:
Grateful for the experience. A big hug to everyone at Chelsea who made me feel at home: teammates, staff, and fans. I wish the club all the best for the future. I am truly thankful, thanks Blues.
Sancho now officially returns to Manchester United as his loan period comes to an end.
