Real Madrid is gearing up for a busy summer transfer window, with a key priority being the recruitment of at least one new central defender. This necessity arises from the anticipated departure of David Alaba and the uncertain future of Antonio Rudiger, whose contract is also set to expire at the end of the current season.
While discussions have circulated about a potential new deal for Rudiger, Real Madrid is reportedly leaning towards offering him a one-year extension. This consideration comes in light of his recent improved performances and fitness levels, suggesting a desire to retain him for at least another season.
However, even if Real Madrid presents an extension offer, it is unlikely to be the only proposal Rudiger receives before the summer. According to reports from Tuttosport (via Sport), Juventus is actively preparing a two-year contract for the Germany international. The Italian club aims to bring Rudiger back to Serie A, where he previously played for Roma.
Juventus has already initiated discussions with Rudiger’s agent and plans to hold further talks to convince him of the move. Should he accept the offer, Rudiger would reunite with Luciano Spalletti, under whom he played during his tenure at Roma.
Rudiger’s Potential Exit: A Concern for Coach Arbeloa
While the Real Madrid hierarchy appears relatively calm about Rudiger’s possible departure at the season’s end, current head coach Alvaro Arbeloa is determined to keep the veteran defender. Arbeloa is a strong admirer of Rudiger’s contributions, and his exit for Juventus would represent a significant blow to the coach’s plans, although Arbeloa’s own long-term position at the Bernabeu remains a subject of ongoing speculation.
