Barcelona is actively seeking a new number nine for the upcoming season following Robert Lewandowski’s departure. While several names have been linked with a move to the Camp Nou, Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez has firmly ruled out any possibility of a transfer.
Speculation had linked Martinez with the Catalan giants, but the Argentine international has expressed his contentment and commitment to Inter. In an interview with Ole, Martinez stated, “My family and I are happy here. We even own a restaurant, the children go to school and have their friends. I find it hard to imagine myself anywhere else. You never know, but if they don’t kick me out, I’ll stay here.”
Adding further clarity, Inter President Giuseppe Marotta corroborated Martinez’s stance, telling 365scores, “There is no truth to the rumours of Lautaro’s transfer to Barcelona.”
A transfer for Martinez would have likely been an expensive undertaking, considering his long tenure and importance to Inter, where he has been a key figure for eight years. Furthermore, there were questions about his tactical fit at Barcelona, as he typically operates in a front two for Inter, while Barcelona would likely require him to lead the line as a lone striker and hold up play. While Martinez is a different profile of forward, potential targets Joao Pedro and Julian Alvarez also present distinct characteristics.
