Paul Pogba is reportedly on the verge of joining AS Monaco. According to reports from Le Parisien, the French midfielder is set to sign a two-year contract with the club based in the Principality. This potential transfer has already received positive comments, including from Eric Roy, manager of Stade Brestois, a rival Ligue 1 club. Vincent Labrune, the president of the French Professional Football League (LFP), also expressed his favour for the prospective move.
Pogba is expected to arrive in Monaco this week, potentially as early as Tuesday, to finalize the terms of his transfer, including undergoing a medical examination. The 2018 World Cup winner has surprisingly never played first-team professional football in France during his career, having left Le Havre AC at a young age to join Manchester United.
However, recent years have seen him miss significant playing time, initially due to injury and subsequently because of a doping ban. Since the commencement of the 2022/23 season, he has accumulated just over 200 minutes of first-team football.
Despite these setbacks, there is considerable anticipation surrounding Pogba`s potential return to the pitch. LFP president Vincent Labrune commented on the positive impact of the transfer in an interview with L’Équipe:
“Ligue 1 will benefit not only from his talent and his charisma, but also from his international standing. That has been at the heart of our project for several seasons, and there is no doubt that the arrival of a world champion of his calibre will contribute to that greatly.”
