Following a period of uncertainty regarding domestic media rights, the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) has formally announced plans to create its own digital service for streaming Ligue 1 matches, starting with the 2025-2026 season. After recent rights auctions failed to attract a broadcaster willing to meet the league`s asking price of €1 billion per season, the LFP has chosen to adopt a direct-to-consumer model.
The new over-the-top (OTT) service, which will be managed by the LFP`s in-house media division with backing from private equity firm CVC, is set to become the primary destination for watching France`s top football division next season. The platform is expected to exclusively broadcast eight of the nine Ligue 1 fixtures scheduled each matchday, covering games played from Friday through Sunday. The single match not included in this exclusive offering is the Saturday 5:00 PM CET slot, which remains with BeIN Sports under an existing annual agreement worth €80 million. The LFP has stated that the ten biggest matches of the season will be included among the eight exclusive fixtures shown on their platform.
The announced price for a monthly subscription to the service is €14.99. This is notably more affordable than the €30.00 per month price point at which DAZN initially launched its Ligue 1 package last season, before later reducing it during the campaign. While there had been recent reports suggesting the LFP might offer a discounted €9.99 monthly rate for subscribers under the age of 26, this specific youth offer was not confirmed in the initial announcement.
