The schedule for the inaugural weekend of the 2025-2026 Ligue 1 season has been unveiled. Defending champions Paris Saint-Germain are slated to kick off their title defence on the road, travelling to face Nantes at the Stade de la Beaujoire on Sunday, August 17th. However, reports indicate that PSG has formally requested a postponement of this fixture. This request stems from their demanding schedule, as their 2024-2025 campaign has been extended, including participation in the 2025 Club World Cup, where they are scheduled to play Lionel Messi`s Inter Miami in the Round of 16.
Meanwhile, last season`s runners-up, Olympique de Marseille, are also set to begin their 2025-2026 Ligue 1 journey away from home. Roberto De Zerbi`s side will make the trip to Brittany to take on Rennes, managed by Habib Beye. The three teams promoted from Ligue 2 have also learned their first opponents: Paris FC will face Angers, FC Metz is set to play Strasbourg, and FC Lorient will meet Auxerre.
In a notable inclusion, Olympique Lyonnais, who recently saw their demotion to Ligue 2 confirmed by the DNCG, are listed in the opening fixtures. Their participation, however, is conditional upon a successful appeal against the DNCG`s ruling. If their appeal is upheld, Les Gones are scheduled for an away fixture against Lens, a club now coached by Lyon`s former manager, Pierre Sage.
