Will Still: Auxerre Must Earn Respect After Hard-Fought Draw at Sochaux
While Auxerre coach Will Still acknowledged his team's fighting spirit in their friendly match against Sochaux on Saturday, which ended in a hard-fought 1-1 draw, he expressed a desire for his players to have shown a different demeanor in the first half.
The Belgian manager, speaking after the match, was pleased with the second-half comeback that salvaged a draw. However, he was less satisfied with the team's initial approach and intensity. Still stressed that for Auxerre to progress and achieve their goals, they must project an image of a team that demands and earns respect from their opponents.
The sentiment suggests that while the resilience shown is commendable, a more assertive and confident start to matches is crucial for the team's development and overall success. Still's comments underscore a desire for Auxerre to be perceived not just as a team that fights back, but as one that dictates terms and imposes its will from the outset.
