Liverpool is demanding a high transfer fee for backup keeper Caoimhín Kelleher this summer, despite interest from other Premier League clubs, and is unwilling to accept a low offer.
Kelleher has repeatedly shown he`s capable of being a Premier League starter when covering for Alisson Becker in recent seasons. He has openly expressed his ambition to become a first-choice goalkeeper, stating just last weekend, “I feel like I`m good enough.”
However, Liverpool has already planned for Alisson`s long-term future by signing highly-rated Georgia international Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia. Mamardashvili is set to arrive at Anfield in July after remaining with Valencia for the 2024–25 season.
This signing further reduces Kelleher`s prospects of becoming Liverpool`s main keeper. With the Republic of Ireland international’s contract expiring next summer, this transfer window is likely Liverpool`s last opportunity to sell him for a significant fee.
According to The Athletic, Liverpool values Kelleher at “above £20 million” ($27 million). Several Premier League clubs are reportedly interested, including Brentford. West Ham United and recently promoted Leeds United have also been identified as potential suitors by the Liverpool Echo.
Other potential destinations mentioned include Bournemouth, who may need a replacement for Kepa Arrizabalaga following his loan from Chelsea, and even Aston Villa, should Emiliano Martínez depart.
A transfer fee exceeding £20 million is considered substantial for a goalkeeper. Such a price would place Kelleher among the top 20 most expensive keepers ever, and a fee closer to £25 million ($27 million) could potentially push him into the top 10.
Despite being an understudy, Kelleher made 10 Premier League appearances during Liverpool`s 2024-25 title-winning campaign, alongside 10 appearances in other competitions like the Champions League and domestic cups.
