St. Pauli`s versatile midfielder and defender, Eric Smith (28), is reportedly a primary target for French side Olympique Lyonnais.
Lyon is expected to undergo changes in its defensive lineup this summer. Duje Caleta-Car is likely to leave due to dissatisfaction with his situation, and Warmed Omari will return to Stade Rennais following an unproductive loan spell.
Consequently, reinforcements are being sought for this area of the pitch. Smith, capable of playing at centre-back or in defensive midfield, has emerged as a top priority. Last season, the 28-year-old Swede was a consistent starter for Bundesliga club St. Pauli, featuring in all 34 league matches.
Despite Olympique Lyonnais holding strong interest in Smith, concrete negotiations to secure a deal have not yet commenced. The club faces an upcoming meeting with the DNCG, French football`s financial regulator, later this month, along with existing administrative oversight from an issue in November.
