Mainz’ deal for Rayan Philippe collapses

Bundesliga News

Reports indicate Rayan Philippe`s anticipated transfer to Mainz has collapsed, despite an earlier verbal agreement. The French forward was expected to move to the Bundesliga club for approximately €2m to €2.5m. The deal`s failure has reportedly left Philippe disappointed, as he was keen to join Bo Henriksen`s squad following positive preliminary talks.

However, Mainz`s decision to withdraw could pave the way for other Bundesliga clubs. Werder Bremen and newly promoted Hamburg are reportedly interested in the 24-year-old Frenchman. Philippe impressed last season, scoring 13 goals and providing six assists in 34 second-division appearances.

No specific reason has been given for Mainz`s withdrawal from the deal. It was recently announced that Mainz has instead signed Benedict Hollerbach from Union Berlin for a reported fee of €7.5m.

Mainz are currently preparing for the upcoming Bundesliga season.
